Philadelphia Lone Star FC scored early and often during Saturday’s 3-1 win over Old Dominion Cesena USA.

Philadelphia came prepared to play, immediately showcasing a level of offensive possession that was simply too much to handle. Florence Dadson lead the way with two goals, and her team climbed into third place in the Mid-Atlantic Conference Colonial Division standings.

All three of Philadelphia’s goals came on incisive passes from defensive and midfield players. Dadson, a forward that spent much of her youth as a member of the Ghanaian national soccer program, provided the first and second goals.

Brianna Washington Banks provided the final insurance goal with the assist coming from Dadson.

Although Dadson’s performance should be lauded, Charlie Flowe was most impressed with the team’s collective performance, especially after falling to the OPSA Magic the night before in the team's first WPSL game.

“I was very impressed with our players ability to perform at a high level with less than 24 hours rest,” Flowe said. “Our team showed a ton of character to stick together and trust each other for 90 minutes.”

For Flowe and his coaching staff, the on-field results are just one small part of what Philadelphia Lone Star FC hopes to offer to its players. The club looks to help older players develop into professionals while providing current college players with an increased opportunity to improve. The coaching staff plans to utilize connections within the NWSL and Europe to help their players pursue further professional opportunities.

Although challenging for a playoff spot in their first season in the WPSL will be difficult, Philadelphia certainly has the technical ability and work rate to chase a playoff spot. Flowe preaches a one-game mentality to his team in order to avoid underestimating the challenge at hand.

“We most certainly hope and plan to make the playoffs,” Flowe said. “While it is a goal, we have to focus on each game at a time and take it week by week as a first year team.”

The team returns to action on Saturday June 8th when it plays CAFC Osprey in the club’s home opener at South Philadelphia Super Site.
