Lehigh Valley hires Burstein as coach

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Erik Burstein, Kutztown University women's soccer coach, will be Lehigh Valley Tempest's head coach for the 2018 WPSL season, the club announced Monday.
    
Burstein, who will continue coaching at Kutztown, is the winningest coach in school history with 153 wins and completed his 11th season in 2017. Kutztown is coming off a 16-4-1 campaign in which it earned the program's first No. 1 national ranking, won a school-record 13-straight games to begin the season, led the conference in scoring, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

 

Former Lehigh Valley coach Rob Rooney was also promoted to Vice President. Under Rooney, Lehigh Valley enjoyed its inaugural season in 2017 finishing 5-4-3 and third in the Mid-Atlantic Conference tables.

 

Rooney holds a USSF B License, and currently the head coach of the West-Mont United Premier ’99 Sirens. He has 24 years experience as a head club coach.  

He was a former collegiate head coach at Immaculata University and Wilmington (DE) University and also served as an assistant coach at West Chester University.
