East Region Preview — Week 3

Hershey Soccer Club hosts Torch FC on Saturday. [LEHIGH VALLEY TEMPEST]

East Region action began Thursday with Lehigh Valley Tempest defeating Philly Fever 3-0. Lehigh Valley is now three points clear of the Fever at the top of the Mid-Atlantic Conference.

 

Motor City FC will begin its WPSL season Friday when it hosts Empire Revs. The Revs are looking to bounce back from a 4-2 loss to Cleveland in Week 1, a match they lead 2-0 at halftime. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. EDT.

 

Saturday features four matches across three different conferences. The day’s events start with the Washington Spirit Reserves playing their season opener at home against Virginia Beach City FC. Washington Spirit Reserves haven't lost a match in two seasons, while Virginia Beach City last played to a 0-0 draw vs. Legacy W76 during opening weekend. Kickoff is 1 p.m. EDT.

 

Play continues with Steel City FC and FC Pride's first matches of the season. Both clubs posted solid four-win seasons in their respective conferences in 2017 before joining the Ohio Valley Conference. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m. EDT in Pittsburgh.

 

In the final Mid-Atlantic Conference match of the weekend, Hershey Soccer Club hosts Torch FC. Both clubs lost their season openers by a goal each, Kickoff is 4:30 p.m. EDT.

 

Saturday's final match features AAFC Lumberjills hosting Empire Revs. Empire Revs will play their second match in two days. Meanwhile AAFC Lumberjills is playing their first match in two weeks following a Week 1 loss to Columbus. Kickoff is 6 p.m. EDT.

 

The weekend concludes Sunday with Cleveland Ambassadors hosting Columbus Eagles FC. Both clubs won their opening matches. This match's winner will become an early favorite to win the conference. Kickoff at 6 p.m.

 

The Metropolitan Conference is the only East Region conference that has not begun its season yet, with the first matches scheduled for Saturday, June 2, as part of Week 4 of the WPSL season.
