Another exciting slate of matches are set in the West Region this weekend, headlined by a handful of expansion sides making their debuts and a couple juggernauts looking to keep focus coming off of big rivalry matches last weekend.

FRIDAY

THUSC Diamonds vs. Seattle Sounders Women, 5 p.m. PDT

A busy weekend for THUSC Diamonds begins Friday with a match against Seattle Sounders Women. It’s the first match of the 2018 season for both clubs and THUSC’s first WPSL regular season contest. It will be a trial by fire for the Diamonds, for Seattle is the Northwest Conference’s reigning champion.

San Diego SeaLions vs. LA Galaxy San Diego, 5 p.m. PDT

It’s two San Diego derbies in a row for the SeaLions, who fell 1-0 to San Diego Parceiro last weekend. If they intend to retain their PacSouth Conference crown, they can ill afford to drop more points on Friday against LA Galaxy San Diego, which will be making its 2018 debut.

SATURDAY

THUSC Diamonds vs. TSS Rovers, 1 p.m. PDT

The Diamonds finish their weekend doubleheader a mere 20 hours after their first match kicks off. Saturday’s contest will be played against TSS Rovers. This will be the Canadian’s side first WPSL contest, with THUSC having just made its debut the day before.

California Storm vs. Primero de Mayo, 6 p.m. PDT

Sixty-two minutes into last weekend’s match against Fresno FC Ladies, California Storm held a 2-1 lead on the road and were in the driver’s seat in the PacNorth Bay Area Division. But the Storm conceded two goals in the final 30 minutes and now find themselves needing to avoid letting three dropped points turn into five or six. That’s a manageable objective for the Storm at home against Primero de Mayo, but in this sport nothing is guaranteed.

Fresno FC Ladies vs. Pleasanton RAGE, 7 p.m. PDT

Just as the Storm need to be mindful of avoiding hangover, so does Fresno FC. Fresno has often held an early advantage in the PacNorth Bay Area Division but has yet to see that advantage out to the end of the regular season to win the conference. It will need to work hard to keep their focus on Saturday night against a Pleasanton RAGE team that was victorious in its first WPSL match last weekend and will be hungry to prove itself further against one of the top sides in the West Region.
