Unstoppable Asheville

Asheville City SC continues to impress in its inaugural season with yet another big win. Asheville traveled to Greensboro to take on the Carolina Lady Dynamo and made short work of the veteran hosts. Christina Shimshock opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a spectacular shot from outside the box. Jennifer Cudjoe made it 2-0 Asheville in the 62nd minute beating the keeper and calmly sending the ball home. Laura Greb came off the bench in the 2nd half and scored in the 83rd with a perfectly placed strike from inside the box. Anna Sumpter put the match away in the 87th minute with a calm and collected finish up close. Goalkeeper Bryson Lee was nothing short of incredible to hold the Dynamo scoreless. Lee and Meghann Burke have now kept Asheville’s clean sheet streak going in all four conference matches.

Dominant Rapids

The Carolina Rapids improve to an unbelievable 5-0-0 record, winning twice in 24 hours in Week 5. On Saturday, the Rapids made short work of Oak City United winning 3-1. The next day, despite a short turnaround and without many key starters, the Rapids did it again against Discoveries SC. After going up 2-1 at the half, the Rapids came out of the break on a tear, scoring three more times to secure a 5-1 win. The Rapids now sit in sole possession of first place in the Carolinas Conference.

New Heights For Chattanooga

With its 2-0 win on Saturday against Peachtree City MOBA, Chattanooga FC has matched its win total from the previous three seasons combined. Chattanooga is on pace for its best season in five years of WPSL play, sits atop the Southeast Conference with matches in hand and has still conceded only a single goal.

Four points in 24 hours

Florida Sol FC hosted a familiar foe in FC Surge on Saturday for its first match in two days and walked away with a hard-fought 2-1 win. Autumn Woodard set up Nicole Martell for the opening goal in the 40th minute, and Talise Romain assisted Angeline Daly for the brace in the 59th. A late push by FC Surge led to a goal for Kristina Fisher in the 78th minute, but the Sol held strong. The next day, goalkeeper Sarah Story kept a clean sheet against the Florida Tropics in what ended in a 0-0 draw. Florida Sol now has even more breathing room between it and the rest of the Sunshine Conference in the standings.

Gulf Coast Queens

Baton Rouge United and Pensacola FC both continued their dominant runs in 2018, with Baton Rouge beating Alabama FC 2-1 and Pensacola FC winning 4-0 in Mississippi. The two clubs seem bent on making the Gulf Conference a two-horse race with a whopping seven points between the top two and third place Alabama FC.
