Singing in the Rain

On Sunday, Cleveland Ambassadors won big over in-state rivals Cincinnati Sirens FC. It was a rain-soaked affair from early on featuring much of the chaos that accompanies inclement weather. Halle Stelbasky and Lani Smith put Cleveland up early scoring in the fifth and sixth minutes respectively. Stelbasky got her second of the evening in the 31st minute, while the Sirens got their first in the 36th to end the first half 3-1. Nine minutes into the second half, Halle Stelbasky completed her hat trick, followed by the Sirens' second in the 62nd. Anna Rico added a fifth for the home side in the 81st, and Sofia Rossi sealed the win in the 84th. Maddie Elliston put in an excellent performance on both sides of the ball, setting up several goals and making key defensive plays.

Take a bow, Motor City FC

What a weekend for Detroit’s own Motor City FC. On Friday, Courtney Peterson broke a first half deadlock, scoring off a free kick in the 53rd minute. Goalkeeper Victoria Cope put on a clinic to shut out AAFC Lumberjills. The club played its second match of the weekend on Sunday as it hosted Pittsburgh’s Steel City FC. Clara Robbins made her presence immediately known, scoring in the 4th minute and again in the 7th to take a very early 2-0 lead. Bella Jodzis made it 3-0 in the 35th, and Robbins completed her hat trick ten minutes later. Jodzis sealed the win in the 82nd minute with her second of the night. Goalkeeper Bethany Kopel made several major saves to keep the clean sheet. The goalkeeping tandem of Cope and Kopel has yet to concede a goal in four matches, which is nothing short of spectacular. Motor City FC sits at the top of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Torch weathers storm

In the Mid-Atlantic Conference, Torch FC continues to burn brightly. Cynthia Brown and Kayleigh Kardos both scored in the second half against Lehigh Valley Tempest to secure a 2-0 win. Torch FC now sits alone atop the conference and is three points clear of Lehigh Valley.

Stalemate for veteran foes

FC Pride hosted Columbus Eagles FC in the latest installment of one of the oldest rivalries in WPSL on Sunday. Sam Dewey scored first in the 22nd minute to put the home side on the board. Amber Kern scored on a rebounded free kick from Micaela Powers to put the Eagles level on the cusp of half time. Powers got a goal of her own in the second half, scoring a penalty kick to take the lead. Dewey scored again in the 74th minute to again tie things up. Columbus and FC Pride now sit 3rd and 4th respectively in the Ohio Valley Conference with just a single point separating the two.

Still undefeated

The Colonial Conference leaders Washington Spirit Reserves and Legacy W76 kept their undefeated streaks alive thanks to a scoreless draw. This means that Washington has still yet to lose in WPSL play dating back to their debut, and Legacy W76 has yet to concede a goal in 2018.

Red hot Rouges

Rhode Island Rogues have now won all three of their WPSL matches, leaving the club atop the Metropolitan Conference thanks to a 2-0 win over the Long Island Fury.
