Asheville City SC moved to the top of the Carolinas Conference standings with a 5-1 victory vs. Carolina Rapids. [Shane Burke, Asheville City SC]

ASHEVILLE CITY SC 5, CAROLINA RAPIDS 1

 

The battle between giants of the Carolinas Conference has ended with a statement victory for Asheville. Megan McCallister put her side up just two minutes into the match, with Molly Dwyer adding two goals herself just minutes later, and Anna Sumpter with a fourth in the 20th minute. Goalkeeper Lauren McAdam made her WPSL debut in the second half, with a big save to preserve the 5-1 scoreline. Asheville now sits one point above the Carolina Rapids at the top of the table.

 

FLORIDA GULF COAST DUTCH LIONS FC 2, TEAM BOCA BLAST 1

 

Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC continue to excel, logging their third win of the season. Sarah Collins struck first for Team Boca Blast in the 20th minute off an assist from Jordan Edouard, answered six minutes later by Zoey Spitzer for the Dutch Lions. The 1-1 deadlock was broken by Yvonne Ploeg with an assist from Silvana Gordon to seal the win in the 65th minute. The Dutch Lions now sit two points clear of the Florida Krush and Florida Sol FC in the Sunshine Conference standings.

 

CHATTANOOGA FC 2, PEACHTREE CITY MOBA 0

 

In the first of two Southeast Conference matches this past weekend, Chattanooga just barely edged out Nashville Rhythm, with the only goal scored in the 32nd minute. On Sunday, despite a weather delay, Chattanooga came out strong, with Carlie Banks scoring in the 28th minute. A 58th minute corner kick from Ashleigh Cade found the head of Caitlin Hayes, giving Chattanooga a 2-0 lead. With this result, Chattanooga makes the Southeast Conference a two-horse race, as every club save for Memphis Lobos are mathematically eliminated. 

 

ALABAMA FC 3, RANGERS LADIES FC 0

 

Alabama FC’s Briana Morris continues her stellar streak, scoring twice on Saturday. Her first goal opened the scoring in the 13th minute with an assist from Nealy Martin, and her second came just six minutes later, again assisted by Martin. Morris now has six goals for Alabama FC in only four matches. Keyli Borman made it 3-0 with her first goal of the season in the 23rd minute. Alabama now sits third in the Gulf Conference, four points behind the leaders Baton Rouge United and Pensacola FC, and still very much in contention for the conference title.

 

FLORIDA KRUSH 2, TAMPA BAY UNTED 0

 

For the first time, Tampa Bay United has been defeated, for Florida Krush put an end to Tampa Bay’s 10-match win streak. This win, plus a followup win over Florida Tropics SC, has vaulted the Krush into second place. It now sits level on points with Florida Sol FC and just two points behind conference leader Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC.
