Game of the Week
With most of its clubs getting their seasons started later in the WPSL calendar, there haven’t been many high-stakes matches in the Coastal Conference so far in 2018. But there’s quite a bit on the line this weekend when top-of-the-table Legends FC take on LA Villa FC. Legends enter the Sunday afternoon clash four points clear of second-place Villa and could give themselves some breathing room by claiming all three points.
Dramatic Conclusion?
Two of the top three teams in the PacSouth play their final regular season matches this weekend, and depending on how those results go, one team could lock up the division. LA Galaxy San Diego is idle this weekend but begin with the lead on goal difference. FC Tucson Women (tied for first on points) and Phoenix Del Sol (two points back) each have two matches this weekend and have a chance to leapfrog the leaders. If the Galaxy do fall behind, it will have a shot to close the gap on the final weekend against last place San Diego SeaLions — provided, of course, that the gap stays at three points or less.
Who’s hot?
Fresno FC Ladies forward Jaycee Ogden had gone quiet since her four-goal outburst in the season opener against Primero de Mayo, but the former Fresno State Bulldogs captain came up big in one of her team’s most important results of the season, a 2-2 draw against PacNorth - Bay Area rivals California Storm.
