2018 WPSL Playoff schedule announced

Oklahoma City – The 2018 Women’s Premier Soccer League playoff schedule, featuring 16 of the best women’s soccer clubs in North America, has been finalized, the league revealed Wednesday.

 

The playoffs begin with the four WPSL Regionals taking place during the weekend. The winners of each regional will advance to the WPSL Championship, which will take place July 20 and 22 in Norman, Oklahoma.

 

Defending WPSL champions Fire & Ice SC (Belleville, Illinois/Greater St. Louis) returns to defend its title after it won the Heartland Conference during the past weekend. FC Dallas is Fire & Ice’s opening opponent Saturday night at the WPSL Central Regional in Pasadena, Texas. Regional hosts Tti Bluebonnets will play in the following match vs. Chicago Red Stars Reserves.

 

The WPSL South Regional has hosts Chattanooga FC facing Pensacola FC on Friday night with the winner playing Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions (Fort Myers, Florida) on Sunday morning.

 

Seattle Sounders Women hosts the WPSL West Regional with two early-afternoon semifinal matches Saturday. The Sounders face LA Villa FC in the first match with FC Tucson Women playing Fresno FC Ladies in the second match.

 

The WPSL East Regional will take place in Bethesda, Maryland. Washington Spirit Reserves, the hosts, face Cleveland Ambassadors in the opening match. SUSA FC (Greater New York City), the only 2018 expansion club to qualify for the playoffs, will play Torch FC (Greater Philadelphia) in the following match.

The WPSL is in its 21st season and is the largest women’s soccer league in the world with more than 100 clubs from coast-to-coast.  WPSL rosters feature elite collegiate, post-collegiate, international and standout prep student-athletes.  Many of the United States’ most accomplished women’s players have played in the WPSL, including household names such as Alex Morgan, Abby Wambach, Megan Rapinoe, Julie Foudy and Brandi Chastain.
