The 2018 WPSL East Regional begins on Saturday, July 14, in Bethesda, Maryland.

Washington Spirit Reserves are on an unbelievable streak. The club has gone undefeated through all three seasons of WPSL play, and won three-consecutive conference titles. This season was particularly remarkable with only two goals conceded in six matches, the lowest goals-against-average in the entire East Region. The club serves as a stepping stone for local athletes to move from the high school and collegiate ranks up to the club’s professional NWSL side, including Yanara Aedo, who has gone from the Washington Spirit Reserves to playing internationally for Chile, and Meggie Dougherty Howard, who made her debut with the U. S. Women's U-23 National Team in 2016.

SUSA FC is the only WPSL expansion club from 2018 to make the postseason, storming its way to the Metropolitan Conference title. SUSA FC brought to the WPSL many alumni of its youth organization which has been running since 2001. Technical Director JR Balzarini built the club with the intent of providing additional high-level play for its older athletes, and many of those former youth players contributed in major ways this season. SUSA posted one of the strongest debut campaigns in recent WPSL history, losing only one of eight matches, a 1-0 loss on the road to New York Athletic Club. For SUSA FC, the playoffs serve as part of the purpose for its WPSL operations, as contending for the WPSL Championship is a great reward for players who have long been part of the club.

Torch FC makes a return to the playoffs and will face SUSA in the regional semifinal.

Cleveland Ambassadors won their first conference title this season, going undefeated through eight matches played, and winning seven. The club fought their way through a grueling Ohio Valley Conference, dispatching regional powerhouses in Columbus and Detroit along the way. To secure their first title, the Ambassadors put an end to Motor City FC’s unbeaten streak in a hard fought 1-0 match and finished the year with three-consecutive shutout wins. The lone blemish on the Ambassadors’ otherwise perfect season was the 3-3 draw against Columbus, which saw the Eagles charge back from a 3-0 deficit. Their first playoff match will be against Washington on Saturday.
