Seattle Sounders Women won the WPSL West Regional during the weekend on the strength of six second-half goals in its victories over LA Villa FC and FC Tucson Women.

After a cagey pair of first 45 minutes in both the West Regional semifinal and final, the later stages became end-to-end affairs with plenty of goalmouth action.

Seattle entered halftime against Villa tied 1-1, but a second-half brace from Bethany Balcer spurred Seattle to a 4-1 lead. Villa chipped away at the deficit and set up a raucous final 10 minutes (including stoppage time) after narrowing the gap to 4-3 with an 83rd minute goal. But Seattle survived and advanced.

The final against Tucson was a seesaw affair with Sounders taking a 1-0 lead into halftime only to concede an equalizer in the 50th minute. That goal kicked off a wild 10 minutes that saw Olivia Van Der Jagt put Seattle back in front before Tucson drew level again in the 59th minute. In the 75th minute, it was Balcer once again delivering the decisive blow for Seattle. An 87th minute penalty from Celia Jimenez Delgato removed all hope of a Tucson comeback — and that's how the West was won.

The win over Tucson leaves Seattle, which has still yet to lose in 2018, two wins away from hoisting the Jerry Zanelli Cup. Next up for Sounders Women are defending WPSL champion Fire & Ice SC on Saturday at 10 a.m. CDT at Gordon Drummond Field in Norman, Oklahoma.

If Seattle wins, it will face the winner of Pensacola Football Club and Chicago Red Stars on Sunday in the WPSL final.
