Robyn Elliott is one of the more experienced players for the Milwaukee Torrent.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Elliott thought her soccer career was done. However, the Milwaukee Torrent became the latest expansion team in the Women’s Premier Soccer League. Elliott still had a shot to play the game she dearly loved.

“I was super happy to be able to join this team,” Elliott said. “Since I’m out of college now, it’s definitely a big change to not have your spot for four years. It’s awesome to play again for the Torrent.”

In the club’s debut season, Elliott helped lead the team to a 3-1-6 record. Milwaukee’s first win occurred on June 16 against Dakota Fusion FC. In the 6-0 victory, Elliott scored a hat trick.

“We played them at home [Hart Park],” Elliott said. “It was an awesome game. I subbed in at 25 minutes and scored at 28 minutes. I was hungry for a goal and they just kept coming. My team did a good job of finding opening players and distributing the ball well.”

Elliott, who will be pursuing her master's degree at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside during the fall, said that while competing in the North Conference was tough, it was a good test.

“We picked up the pace and got more connected as a team,” Elliott said. “We wanted to show that in our first year that we have a lot to show for Milwaukee. We can compete with the top teams.”

She is not shy about being a leader. With the majority of her teammates still in college, stepping up to the leadership role was natural for Elliott.

“It gives me experience,” Elliott said. “It’s a great experience to get some touches and play at a competitive level before going back to their college teams. It’s a different atmosphere because we’re all coming from different backgrounds, college teams and high schools. It did take us a couple weeks to drop the titles of where we came from and got into the mindset that we’re playing for the Torrent.”

By the time the season ended, Elliott said that the Torrent were doing more and growing fully as a team.

However, she is hopeful to comeback next summer and help the Torrent push further and potentially make a playoff run. The team finished in third in the North Conference behind the Chicago Red Stars Reserves and Fire SC 98.

In the end, Elliott is just thankful to coach Mark Litton for giving her the opportunity to strap on her cleats again. Elliott called Litton a conceptual coach.

“He will tell us what we need to work on at practice and make up drills on the spot, so we know what to move forward on,” Elliott explained. “I never had a head coach that’s been male, but it’s been interesting the change of how they lead, not in a bad way. It’s just different. He’s very soft spoken.

“He’s a very good person to be coached under.”

Elliott was also named the first Milwaukee Torrent player to be named a Player of the Week in the WPSL on June 24.
