MESA, Arizona –FC Arizona, a proven Phoenix-area men’s soccer club, has expanded with a women’s team that will join the Women’s Premier Soccer League for the 2019 season, the league announced Wednesday.

Scott Taylor is FC Arizona Women's owner who founded a successful National Premier Soccer League men’s club in 2017, and his new WPSL club will provide additional playing opportunities for female soccer players across the Phoenix metropolitan area, specifically the Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler communities.

“We are excited to bring this opportunity for women to play the game at a high level and for local girls to watch a local WPSL team,” Taylor said. “I’m honored to have FC Arizona selected by the league leadership. This really means a lot for the women’s game in Arizona.”

FC Arizona Women will play its home matches at John Riggs Stadium at Mesa Community College. FC Arizona will be in the same conference as fellow Arizona clubs Phoenix Del Sol and FC Tucson, two of the top West Region clubs in 2018.

The women’s side will have an incredible season if it is able to replicate the success the men’s NPSL side had during its expansion season. FC Arizona won the NPSL Southwest Conference in 2017, which earned it a spot in the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The women’s club joins CAFC Ospreys (Frederica, Delaware), EGA Omaha, Alamo City SC (San Antonio), Chatham FC (Savannah, Georgia), Wake FC (Raleigh, North Carolina), ASC San Diego, EPIC Sport Management (Victoria, British Columbia) and Indios Denver FC as announced 2019 expansion clubs.

The WPSL is in its 22nd season and is the largest women’s soccer league in the world with more than 100 clubs from coast-to-coast.  WPSL rosters feature elite collegiate, post-collegiate, international and standout prep student-athletes.  Many of the United States’ most accomplished women’s players have played in the WPSL, including household names such as Alex Morgan, Abby Wambach, Megan Rapinoe, Julie Foudy and Brandi Chastain.
