CEDAR GROVE, New Jersey – NJ Wizards SC Cedar Stars, part of the Wizards Sports Club in Northern New Jersey, have joined the Women’s Premier Soccer League as an expansion club, the league announced Tuesday.

Tamas Kovacs, the founder and president of Wizards Sports Club, will serve as the WPSL club’s coach. Steve Davis joins him as the club’s sporting director along with general manager Lee Glover.

Founded in 2016, Wizards Sports Club strives to make a difference in every player’s life in a positive and welcoming atmosphere. In joining the WPSL, the club has the opportunity to showcase positive role models for its youth while supporting female players who aspire to play at the professional level.

“We are thrilled to bring the largest women’s soccer league in the world to northern New Jersey, and we are committed to developing the tri-state area’s most talented players and showcasing their skills on the field,” Kovacs said. “Women who are aspiring to play top level soccer will be given the opportunity to play in one of the highest-level environments against top collegiate players. It also will ignite the passion for the game in our young players.”

“We understand that the love of soccer will keep these young ladies in the game for a lifetime.  We are absolutely honored that NJ Wizards SC Cedar Stars have been selected by WPSL to join its organization.”

The club will play at Cedar Grove High School, a stadium that had a significant renovation completed in 2017. Tickets will cost $10 per match. The 2019 season schedule will be announced in the spring.

The Wizards join CAFC Ospreys (Frederica, Delaware), EGA Omaha, Alamo City SC (San Antonio), Wake FC (Raleigh, North Carolina), ASC San Diego, EPIC Sport Management (Victoria, British Columbia), Indios Denver FC, FC Arizona Women (Mesa, Arizona), Charlotte Eagles, Philadelphia Lone Star FC, North Alabama SC, Utah Royals FC Reserves, Orlando Kicks FC, Salsa Women SC (Torrance, California) and Spokane SC Shadow as announced 2019 expansion clubs.
